LG Electronics and Augmented Pixels partner to deliver a 3D camera module with SLAM for Autonomous Navigation for Robots and Inside-Out Tracking for AR/VR Glasses

SAN FRANCISCO, June 20, 2017

LG Electronics, a global leader in consumer electronics and Augmented Pixels, Inc, a leading Computer Vision R&D company, announce partnership to deliver a smart and compact 3D-camera module with SLAM for Autonomous Navigation (Robots, Drones) and Inside-Out Tracking (Augmented Reality (AR) / Virtual Reality (VR) Glasses) to the market.

Beyond working closely together to deliver a smart 3D module, LG and Augmented Pixels also provide support to ensure each customer using the module has a successful implementation.

“We are very excited to be working with Augmented Pixels to offer the customers the exact technology they need. The single module that incorporates our camera and SLAM technology is an efficient solution in terms of performance and pricing. It can satisfy requirements of many manufacturers of robots and AR/VR systems, who are looking for effective ways to incorporate enhanced computer vision into their products” said  Shin Yun-Sup, principal engineer at LG Electronics, ” Our compact module has a processor, so all algorithms and software running on board provide flexibility to our customers and remove a lot of limitations based on limited calculation power of consumer devices.”

Vitaliy Goncharuk, CEO, Augmented Pixels, “Augmented Pixels, Inc. currently has the fastest proprietary SLAM for mono and stereo cameras, as well as sensor fusion and technologies for autonomous navigation (obstacle avoidance, point cloud semantics, etc.) on the market. All our systems are hardware-agnostic, but our clients require a complete solution, that combines computer vision software with hardware. Our partnership with LG Electronics allows us to come up with a very efficient solution for markets of AR Glasses and Home Robotics.  For AR Glasses manufacturers we can provide a full stack of computer vision technologies for Inside-out Tracking, Mapping, and Surface Reconstruction based on an efficient LG Electronics compact camera module, including real-time calculation of 6DOF and Point Cloud “on board”. For Home Robotics producers our SLAM software combined with LG Electronics’ compact camera provides “autonomous navigation brain”, allowing to shorten time to market for solutions like an autonomous vacuum cleaner, smart home toys or autonomous robots for public spaces and logistics.”
